Voices in the Great Silence

Nerum Royal Decree

By Royal decree,

The cult of Samsara will be welcome into the Court of Balance. We shall welcome crafters to build the Court of Balance temples and find those who are loyal to the precepts of this new order. May Nerum be blessed by the new Court.

It is with great honor that I announce the Celestial tourney of Balance and may we find the best combatant. We anticipate victors in combined lance, archery, and melee. First Knight Reeve Valithor ap Drake will be adjudicating our festivals. May all enjoy the Celestial gifting feasts and festivities.

By Order of His Graces,

The Island of the Dead will suffer the living...

The Shard is found on the Island of the Dead. Not exactly a luxury spa resort though. 2/3 of the crew on the ship perished while we were ashore and none of us feel that healthy on returning, except “Death for the Death God” of course. I feel like Korin is getting the better end of this deal. I think with the Shard in hand we should ask for a bit more in return before handing it over.

After a quick stop in Nethelil to deposit the useless bard and take on trade goods we sail toward Erast and home. Now help me pack this metal boat in a crate before we sail into the harbor.

Don't Drink the ... Anything

A visit to a volcanic island of veiled silent traders has resulted in a determination that you cannot out drink cold blooded creatures and Solaris probably should not drink. More scarring and a new full body tattoo should help remind him. Anyway after our brief visit ashore we are more than halfway to our destination. Strange lights have begun to appear in the depths. Strange creatures or magical buildings. I don’t know but I sure could use a sample.

Captain’s log ‘Freedom’

We seem to be sailing at the whims of some new business partners. They wish to journey out to uncharted waters though I know my crew won’t let us down. It will be a hard journey and I asked for triple rations, some navigation charts, more weapons, and extra supplies. I feel the sea will be quite wicked out in the parts they wish to go but there maybe promise. I hope the crew don’t get any funny ideas out in the waves. I hired on a minstrel I hope it was worth the emerald; they do tend to be a whiney lot.

Two weeks out to sea and we follow the trade route up to Nethelil. I have tried to stay to my quarters, our new guests some seem familiar but I can’t place them yet so they might be dangerous. So far the journey has been uneventful; sadly the damned bard has been completely worthless he can’t carry a tune hanging over bulwark. At least the crew seems amused to take jibs at the man’s misery, plus all he knows are courtly melodies and no shanties. The weather looks favorable and we will probably make Nethelil in a week and turn westward.

Bringing Everyone Up to Speed

Having freed the gods and been reincarnated with full memories 50 years later in a world that is a strange yet familiar place, we find that races, familiar to us in our second life, are wholly alien to our first life. We have lived similar lives for the most part to reach this point when our memories were restored. The great city of Erast has been rebuilt and the world continues on much as it had before.

Our fellow captives survived into old age. They helped bring Solaris Inc. through the last 50 years lead by Solaris’ 30 year old daughter Angela Solaris. She is likely unrelated to Solaris considering the time gap and simply assuming the identity to justify her controlling share of Solaris Inc. Nevertheless she has show remarkable business acumen, grown the business into an amazing enterprise as well as taken care of our fellow survivors and Solaris’ mother.

We have regained our memories only to find out few would believe who we were and that Solaris Inc. is scheduled for arson at the end of the week if we are unable to come up with an amazing sum of 15,000 silver. A little research has shown that someone on the Trade Council is likely behind the attack contracted to the thieves guild. Thankfully we know exactly who will try to burn Solaris Inc. to the ground and when they will strike. Unfortunately it is us and another group … and we are magically bound by contract to assist.

The Story so far...

Prologue: A marked band of prophecy

After multiple centuries of watching these incessant creatures journey in and out of the prison grove, I was able to follow a thread of fate and possibility, luckily one of the few that survived in the blighted world outside. This begins our watch of the marked company, their start began a fairly humble if not degrading and violent start.

The delicious avarice of a shop owner spurred an organization of this destined company. A scholar Solaris, the door guard orphan Ssir’qxet’vyssz Tal’xssth, a devotee of Samsara Fial O’Maar, a paranoid vanguard Naudn, a shipless captain Armando Worraps, an assassin of Samsara, and a dying drunk Hert. There were others involved in this band but their revolt happened upon the gem plagued city of Erast in a prison. Their stories are still being worked in by our lovely Victor and his court of gods, beasts, demons, and godesses. On with Hert’s generosity, the troupe enjoyed a night of drink, brawls, and excitement some more than others. The cautious Naudn refused to imbibe the horrible swill the seedy Bylarian bar served. This misgiving lead to a more painful initiation to slavedom. Naudn courageously attempted to fight fully armed guards; shielded by her employer Solaris’ unconscious body and armed with her mug of ale. Concerned about being branded with a murder mark she expertly lobbed her untouched drink into the brazier of the torturer. This bought her a painful scar and many bruises and possibly a broken cheek.

The hungover six and pummeled one woke bound on a slaver ship headed for who knows where. The galley cook Finbar Galedeep and his friendly otter served the battered new slaves their meager meals. The Priest Fial promised death and torture on the crew in this life and the next. The crafty assassin attempted to find a new place in the Bylarian ranks. Resourceful Solaris attempted to remove the manacles with a splinter. Ssir’qxet’vyssz had found memories of his youth within the orphanage and mused that his treatment was much better by his current captures. Armando and Naudn plotted on ways to seek retribution for their lot in life. Hert proceeded to become sicker and possibly infect those around him with his consumption. An organized slave rebellion was planned and executed. The murderous band decimated their captures and decorated the ship with a new sheen of blood. Many slaves perished except for six lucky individuals Solaris could save. Captain Boris the Touched welcomed his new crew of murderous fiends but was shortly after a head shorter. Solaris was named the new Captain of Freedom.

Freedom was welcomed back into the Vornis Harbor to the wreckage of Erast. The saved seven stayed on the boat while the worried six searched the city for any signs of life. I was able to slightly touch the world and produce a pillar of light to guide these destined souls to my waiting talons. The curious six came to visit me in the Creator’s house and freed the host of deities. For their efforts I attempted to educate them of their plight and the peculiarity of their race though I am unsure if they completely understood my lectures. After some time my Lady called me to her side and I am sure others petitioned the band for allegiance and service. I do hope they remembered my advice of remaining neutral. They were killed each and everyone of them to be weaved back into the soul tapestry and as compromised upon ‘maturity’ have their memories released in the new existence.

Now I am free to perform my Lady’s tasks in the world abroad spread her words and maintain her balance upon creation. I am sure my fate has been irreversibly linked with these enigmatic creatures.
